Hi! It’s been a while since I introduced myself, so here’s an updated intro post! Welcome to my website for all my photography work that is not photojournalism!

My name is Salgu Wissmath. I use they/them pronouns. I’m a queer nonbinary Korean American photographer currently based in San Antonio, TX, and part time in Sacramento, CA. I moved out to Texas in 2023 for a year-long photojournalism fellowship at the San Antonio Express-News. After my fellowship ended I stuck around San Antonio to continue freelancing. Aside from the heat, I really enjoy the community here in San Antonio! You can find me regularly attending Free Community Yoga classes and making stained glass projects over at Breva Creative Maker Space. And I still take some clients in California, since I visit my family in Sacramento often.

I picked up photography 20 years ago, when I took my first black-and-white darkroom photography class in high school. I started my photography business 6 years ago after finishing grad school for Photography. My background is in photojournalism and documentary photography and I have worked for publications like The New York Times, NPR,  San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Magazine, Texas Tribune, Dallas Morning News and others. You can check out my documentary and editorial work over at www.salguwissmath.com.

My passion is documenting the LGBTQIA+ community. Some of my personal projects focus on illustrating what gender dysphoria feels like, highlighting queer people of faith through portraiture, and celebrating #NonbinaryJoy.

Aside from photojournalism, my main speciality is portraiture. I take family portraits, grad portraits, engagement sessions, and headshots, (as well as a lot of self-portraits!) I do weddings and event photography. And also offer nonprofit and video storytelling.
